Seven Lives Saved
If you have visited the Books page you've seen the short snippet about Seven Lives Saved, the first book that I will self-publish. In a nutshell this story is about Kathka, a man who is killed but receives a second life that he can keep only if he saves seven lives.
Curses, corrupted governments, ancient lore, historic divides: the only thing that concerns Kathka is securing his second life so that he can satisfy his final revenge and kill his murderer.
I am on the fourth draft of this book, and there is still so much work to do! I am in developmental edits for the manuscript. These edits get into the core structure of the story to ensure that the plot flows well from one scene to the next to create a cohesive story. Since the book is heavily character driven I am paying specific attention on crafting strong character arcs. The next step in my edits is to take each scene and evaluate it through scene cards.
There is still a lot of work to do before the story is ready for publication. But while I work, here is a peek behind the scenes into the story!
Random Facts about the book
This story was highly influenced by Haiti and my experiences there.
This book is primarily set in a desert, but when I started writing it I had never been to one. You'll be hearing more about my trip to the Sahara and how that impacted my writing of this story.
One of the secondary characters, Nana, named herself. Though I have questioned her name a few times, it just feels right and I can't bring myself to change it.
Four of the characters in this book were originally part of a different story, but both plots had similar elements and so the other story was integrated into this one!
This story originated with the idea of someone being given a second life, and everything else fell into place after that.
Emotion of the book:
Music has a strong tie to emotion, and I have compiled a playlist of songs that I believe resembles the feel of the book. Check out this Seven Lives Saved Spotify playlist!
Atmosphere of the book:
I have also collected an assortment of photos that reflect the mood of the story and capture my vision of the people and places. Check out the Seven Lives Saved Pinterest board!
I am excited to continue editing this book! There is still much to do, but I so look forward to the day when I can publish it.
